I’m a meat and potatoes guy. I was raised on the stuff. When I was in my 20s and 30s, I lived on turkey dogs and frozen pizza.
Now, I’m married to a farmer who has introduced my palate to things like fresh vegetables, herbs, and not microwaving everything. And my palate changed. A lot.
One of my biggest NO WAY – NOT EVER kinds of food was Indian food. I just couldn’t get past the smell or look of it.
In our ‘father blog’ to DADVenture Disney – MindofModernMan.com – I did a whole story about my palate changing, and my first experience with Indian food was a big part of it.
My wife LOVES Indian food and I got her take-out for her birthday, a few years ago. She ordered things she knew could turn me into an Indian food junkie. And she was right.
The best part of Indian food, of course, THE NAAN! Buttery warm doughy flat bread. OH MAN! I’ll dip this in ANYTHING.
On our honeymoon I wanted to find my wife some of this and booked a lunch at Sanaa in the Animal Kingdom Villas – Kidani Village. The Disney webpage describes it as East-African and Indian inspired food.
First thing on the menu we saw … NAAN!!!!!
And looking at the 2019 menu – it’s still there!
This is the #1 reason the menu is on our list again for our 2019 DADventure to Walt Disney World.
That, and the fact that when you sit at Sanaa – you are face to face with the animals of the savannahs of the Animal Kingdom Villas.
Giraffes, zebras, cranes and more!
The desserts on our honeymoon were on point too! The second one was our special dessert for wearing our honeymoon celebration pins.
We’re going to have to try out a smoothie this trip, too.
Sanaa has a kids menu, with actual selections on it beyond mac & cheese and hotdogs. They know kids love this food too! (Unlike the most Disney restaurants – but that’s a whole other blog post!) I have a feeling the butter chicken will be on our table, right alongside the bread service.
This year, on the day we’re rope-dropping Animal Kingdom, we will be headed on the bus over to Sanaa for lunch as a family. And we can not wait!
What is your go-to restaurant at Animal Kindom? Let me know in the comments below.
Thanks, as always, for joining me on the DADventure!
