Our topic this week: Top 10 Upcoming Disney Experiences We’re Excited For!

Disney seems to be a steamroller of new things coming at us – films, television, theme parks, rides, attractions, shows, resorts and so much more!

Our merry band is 9 strong this week but we still came up with over 40 different things we’re excited for! One experience made it on to EVERY single list!

Our entire list has 10 things coming to Epcot, 8 films, 7 streaming shows, 4 things in Disneyland/California Adventure, 2 at Hollywood Studios and 1 in the Magic Kingdom. Also a good handful of experiences that fell into “MISC” for our lists.

Lots to get jazzed about, but let’s see what ended up the tops of our list.

Set to Debut: Early(ish) 2020
Top 10 Score: 1.22, nominated on 2 of 9 ballots.

In 2020, following the limited-time run of “Epcot Forever,” the new “HarmonioUS” will debut as the largest nighttime spectacular ever created for a Disney park. It will celebrate how the music of Disney inspires people the world over, carrying you away harmoniously on a stream of familiar Disney tunes reinterpreted by a diverse group of artists from around the globe. “HarmonioUS” will feature massive floating set pieces, custom-built LED panels, choreographed moving fountains, lights, pyrotechnics, lasers and more.

Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana
Set to Debut: 2021
Top 10 Score: 1.67, nominated on 5 of 9 ballots.

Journey of Water, Inspired by “Moana” will be the first experience inspired by the hit Walt Disney Animation Studios film. This lush exploration trail will invite you to meet and play with magical, living water. The water will have a life of its own – just like Moana’s friend, the ocean – and you’ll learn about the importance of the natural water cycle.

Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure
Set to Debut: Summer 2020
Top 10 Score: 2.67, nominated on 5 of 9 ballots.

In summer 2020, the France pavilion will offer even more for you to discover, including the much-anticipated attraction Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, where you’ll shrink to the size of Chef Remy and race through Gusteau’s restaurant on a wild adventure. Summer 2020 will also see the debut of a delicious new restaurant in the France pavilion, La Crêperie de Paris, offering both table- and quick-service options featuring a menu from celebrity chef Jérôme Bocuse.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind
Set to Debut: 2021
Top 10 Score: 3.11, nominated on 5 of 9 ballots.

Photo: Disney

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will be the first “other-world” showcase pavilion at Epcot. The adventure starts in the “Galaxarium,” a planetarium-like exhibition that explores the similarities and mysteries of the formation of Earth’s galaxy and Xandar. You will be invited to learn more about the treasures Xandar has to share – until the moment when the Guardians of the Galaxy arrive, and adventures across the cosmos ensue. The attraction will feature a new innovation from Walt Disney Imagineering – a storytelling coaster that rotates 360 degrees to focus your attention on the action, including the first reverse launch on a Disney coaster.

Frozen 2
Opening Date: November 22, 2019
Top 10 Score: 3.44, nominated on 5 of 9 ballots.

Why was Elsa born with magical powers? The answer is calling her and threatening her kingdom. Together with Anna, Kristoff, Olaf and Sven, she’ll set out on a dangerous but remarkable journey. In “Frozen,” Elsa feared her powers were too much for the world. In “Frozen 2,” she must hope they are enough. From the Academy Award®-winning team—directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck, producer Peter Del Vecho and songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez—and featuring the voices of Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, Jonathan Groff and Josh Gad, Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Frozen 2” opens in U.S. theaters on Nov. 22, 2019.

Tron Lightcycle Power Run
Magic Kingdom
Set to Debut: 2021
Top 10 Score: 3.67, nominated on 5 of 13 ballots. 2 first place votes.

The planned Magic Kingdom port of the attraction will be placed in a completely new section of Tomorrowland to the north of Space Mountain. The Magic Kingdom version’s official name was revealed as the Tron Lightcycle Run.

The coaster’s track takes riders inside and outside the attraction’s building, reaching speeds of nearly 60 miles per hour (97 km/h)—the fastest for any Disney roller coaster.

The attraction’s motorbike-styled vehicles were created by Walt Disney Imagineering as a method of specializing individual rider experience. The ride was then given a Tron-theme because the ride vehicles resembled the lightcycles featured in Tron: Legacy. When aboard the ride vehicle, riders lean forward and grip a set of handlebars. A pad situated behind the seat secures the rider in place.

Avengers Campus
Disneyland/California Adventure
Set to Debut: 2020
Top 10 Score: 3.78, nominated on 4 of 9 ballots. 1 first place vote.

Guests can suit up alongside their favorite Super Heroes at the Avengers Campus, beginning in 2020 at Disney California Adventure. The campus is set up by the Avengers to recruit the next generation of Super Heroes.

“In some ways, these new campuses are like the Avengers themselves: a group of diverse individuals who have teamed up for the same purpose,” said Scot Drake, creative executive, Marvel Global Portfolio, Walt Disney Imagineering. “This collection of unique addresses—each dedicated to a different discipline—have been brought together to champion the next generation of heroes.”

The Avengers Campus will feature the first Disney ride-through attraction to feature Spider-Man. Guests will enter this attraction at the first key address on the campus, the Worldwide Engineering Brigade – also known as “WEB.”

During an open house at WEB, aspiring inventors will invite guests along for a test drive of their latest invention: the “Web Slinger” vehicle. This new adventure allows guests to sling webs just like Spider-Man, and gives them a taste of what it’s like to have actual super powers to help Spider-Man collect Spider-Bots that have run amok.

Avengers Campus will also feature Pym Test Kitchen. Just as Ant-Man and The Wasp use “Pym Particles” to grow and shrink just about anything, Pym Technologies is using the latest innovations to grow and shrink food at this eatery.

Guests will also find heroic encounters throughout the campus, including Ant-Man and The Wasp, Doctor Strange, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Super Heroes from Wakanda and Asgard, and Iron Man.

As Super Heroes continue to assemble, one of the iconic buildings at Disney California Adventure will be the Avengers Headquarters. This building, set to open in phase two, will become the future entrance to a new attraction where guests will board a Quinjet and fly alongside the Avengers in an epic adventure to Wakanda and beyond. Guests will team up alongside the Avengers in a battle to save the world against one of the most powerful villains they have ever faced. Work is underway on an all-new innovative ride system for this attraction.

The Avengers Campus will open at a later date at Disneyland Paris.

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance
Disneland & Hollywood Studios (Galaxy’s Edge)
Set to Debut: Dec 2019 in Florida, Jan 2020 in California
Top 10 Score: 3.89, nominated on 4 of 9 ballots. 1 first place vote

Photo: Disney

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance will be one of the most ambitious, advanced and immersive experiences ever undertaken by Walt Disney Imagineering. The innovative new attraction will take guests aboard a full-size transport shuttle before they are captured by a Star Destroyer and wind up in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance. The harrowing adventure will blur the lines between fantasy and reality on a scale never seen before in a Disney attraction.

Guests will join the Resistance and depart from Batuu in a transport ship to meet General Leia Organa at a secret rendezvous point. However, on their way to the hidden base, guests are intercepted and taken prisoner by the First Order as their ship is drawn into the hangar bay of a Star Destroyer. The action then ramps up as guests seek to escape the clutches of Kylo Ren and the First Order.

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance will bring guests face to face with some of their favorite Star Wars characters, including Resistance heroes Rey, Poe and Finn, as well as Kylo Ren and General Hux of the First Order.

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is one of the largest attractions Disney has ever created. Its massive show building is a world unto itself, housing two full-sized AT-AT walkers and a Star Destroyer hangar bay – complete with a TIE fighter and a garrison of Stormtroopers – plus more thrills and surprises.

Walt Disney Imagineering will combine multiple ride systems to tell the story of Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. In one sequence, a new simulator experience will give the sensation to guests they are falling from space to crash land on Batuu.

During a portion of the experience, guests will race through a Star Destroyer in a trackless ride vehicle featuring an onboard droid that reacts to its surroundings.

Streaming Service
Debuts: November 12, 2019
Top 10 Score: 9.33, nominated on 9 of 9 ballots. 4 first place votes.

Disney+ will be focused on film and television content from Walt Disney Studios and Walt Disney Television. Original films and television series based on new and existing properties are also planned, including content from Disney, 20th Century Fox, Marvel, National Geographic, Pixar, and Star Wars.

The service will be built around content from Disney’s main entertainment studios, including Walt Disney Pictures, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar, Lucasfilm, Marvel Studios, National Geographic, and select films from 20th Century Fox, Fox Searchlight Pictures, Hollywood Pictures, and Touchstone Pictures. The service will operate alongside Hulu, which Disney gained a controlling stake in following the 21st Century Fox purchase. Bob Iger stated that Disney+ would be focused specifically on family-oriented entertainment (and not carry any R or TV-MA-rated content), and that Hulu would remain oriented towards general entertainment. Hulu will also host Disney+ as an add-on service.

It is expected that Disney+ will have approximately 7,000 television episodes and 500 films, including content from Disney, Pixar, Marvel Studios, Lucasfilm, 20th Century Fox, and National Geographic, as well as original television series and films from Disney Channel and Freeform, and select titles from 20th Century Fox Television and ABC Studios. New releases from 20th Century Fox will not immediately be available on either Disney+ or Hulu, as Fox has an output deal with HBO until 2022. Captain Marvel will be the first theatrically-released Disney film to stream exclusively on Disney+. Iger said that Disney+ will eventually host the entire Disney film library, including films currently in the “Disney Vault.” The service will also hold exclusive streaming rights to The Simpsons, with seasons 1–30 being available on launch.

WOW! That’s some cool stuff! A lot of the content on Disney+ was nominated on their own too. Those include: Lady & The Tramp Live Action, Lizzie McGuire Reboot, According to Jeff Goldblum, The Mandalorian, Spidey & Friends and The Imagineering Story

Films? Oh we like films too! We nominated: The Rise of Skywalker, Jungle Cruise, Onward, Cruella, Mulan, Soul and even Indiana Jones 5.

We’re pumped for the new Riviera Resort, Zootopia in Hong Kong Disney, The new Magic Happens Parade in Disneyland and so much more.
