Welcome back to DADventure Disney’s round table of some of my favorite Disney Fan Parents on Instagram.
Every week, I work alongside this merry band of Disney fan parents to find our Top 10 favorites in all things Disney. See ALL our lists by clicking HERE!
This week, the group consists of these Disney Parent Panelists:

Our topic this week: Top 10 Favorite Things To Do At Animal Kingdom!
Too many people overlook Animal Kingdom as a great way to spend a day. People are scared of the crazy long lines in Pandora and then hide from the rest of the goodness Animal Kingdom has to share. To those people, we say – give it another try!
7 of us joined up this week and came up with over 30 different things we love about Animal Kingdom. If you go and visit the Top 10 we have below, you’ll have GREAT day and then there are least 20 other things to go and do, too!
Check out our list, then hit the comments below and let us know what YOUR favorites are in Animal Kingdom.
SO much to choose from!
Top 10 Score: n/a, nominated on 7 of 7 ballots.
As a group we listed a LOT of places to get something to eat at Animal Kingdom, so I combined them all here at #10. Some things are as ‘simple’ as the Colossal Cinnamon Roll at Kusafiri – but there are amazing 5-star level food options here too!
Our Disney Parents Panel recommends: Flame Tree BBQ, Tiffins, Kusafiri Bakery & Coffee Shop, Nomad Lounge, Satu’li Canteen, Tusker House and Yak & Yeti.
Top 10 Score: 1.29, nominated on 3 of 7 ballots.
It’s shaded. It’s SAFE. The Boneyard is a place little kids and run and let off steam. It’s a parent’s saving grace in the middle of a crazy day in the park.
Kali River Rapids
Top 10 Score: 2.00, nominated on 2 of 7 ballots.
Want to cool off? The Kali River Rapids will do that. In fact, there’s a good chance you’ll get soaked. But it’s fun, right?
Do yourself a favor and bring a ziplock baggie for your phone and wallet…
The Tree of Life
Top 10 Score: 2.14, nominated on 3 of 7 ballots.
It’s literally the center of all things Animal Kingdom. The Tree of Life has carvings of every animal you can think of and it could take you years to see them all in there.
With winding paths that go all around the tree, you can happen upon many amazing real-life animals as you discover all the carvings offer.
Inside the tree is Tough to Be A Bug – which is a sin that it didn’t make our Top 10!
Rafiki’s Planet Watch
Top 10 Score: 3.29, nominated on 5 of 7 ballots.
Character meets, animation classes, a short train ride, and oh yeah – learning about how to care for and help conserve wild life. This remote part of the park is a great way to spend some time.
Top 10 Score: 4.00, nominated on 4 of 7 ballots.
A roller coaster. In a mountain. Chasing a Yeti! Need I say more?
Top 10 Score: 4.00, nominated on 5 of 7 ballots.
Like walking through an AMAZING zoo you can walk along the trails, such as Gorilla Falls, and find close-up encounters with some fantastic animals.
“Spot an adorable meerkat on a rocky perch or an impressive Grevy’s zebra on the savanna—before coming face to face with a gentle troop of western lowland gorillas on a grassy hillside—who are just as curious to see you as you are to see them!” – Disney Website
Festival of the Lion King
Top 10 Score: 6.14, nominated on 7 of 7 ballots. 2 first place votes.
If Timon and Simba were to host a Broadway Cirque due Soleil Show in the middle of Africa, it would be the Festival of the Lion King. It’s a spectacular like no other, and is an all-time favorite – as evidenced by being on all 7 of our ballots!
I always felt strange in the Giraffe Section though – they just don’t sound ‘right’. 😉
Avatar: Flight of Passage
Top 10 Score: 7.71, nominated on 6 of 7 ballots. 3 first place vote.
If you don’t know about this ride, you’re simply not going to make it on. You need to WISH AND PRAY for a FastPass the SECOND they open up for your vacation or you’re waiting on line for hours.
It’s one of the most amazing sensory-pounding flight simulators you’ll ever experience and to many folks is well worth the wait.
Top 10 Score: 8.14, nominated on 7 of 7 ballots. 2 first place votes.
Disney does an excellent job of creating as true-to-life habitats for their animals as possible. You get to ride through it on a huge jeep with informative tour guides.
It’s an experience unlike any other in any of the parks. No animatronics. No furry puppets. Real elephants, rhinos, giraffes and lions right outside your vehicle. It’s a thrill!
[Bonus DADventure Tip: Read our thoughts on Rope-Dropping the Safari for the best experience!]
There is so much more to do in Animal Kingdom. You can walk into Kevin from Up! You can meet Mickey and Minnie in their safari gear. You can ride through the Navi River. Whatever you choose to do at Animal Kingdom, make sure it’s on your agenda to spend at LEAST one day there.
How about you? What do you love about Animal Kingdom? Do you cross it off your list all together and skip it? Is a 2-hour wait for Flight of Passage worth it? Share your thoughts in the comments below or on our Instagram and Facebook pages.
Thanks for reading and always remember – DADventure is out there!
