Disney keeps releasing more and more news about their 50th Anniversary celebration that starts Oct 1 and I’ve found some more of the 50th Golden Character statues.

I’ll announce our contest giveaway winner from our new subscribers (thanks so much for being here everyone!) and even throw a fun Disney brain teaser in towards the end.

MEARS CONNECT TO REPLACE
MAGICAL EXPRESS
Earlier this year, Disney announced they were ending the Magical Express bus service at the end of 2021. That left many to wonder how will we get from the Orlando Airport to our Disney Resort?

For any of you that may not know, Disney’s Magical Express was a service that was included with a Disney Resort stay and came with a few perks.

The best one – they’d mail luggage tags to your home. Once you placed your tags on your luggage and checked it at your departing airport, you wouldn’t have to worry about them again – they’d show up in your Disney resort room.

The buses were waiting for you when you got off your plane and would whisk you away directly to your Disney resort. They’d also pick you up on your return day and get you to the airport in plenty of time to leave.

That’s all going away.

Rumors have a new train line from the airport that will have a stop at Walt Disney World – which sounds great, but you still have to get from that stop to your resort – with all your luggage.

Of course there are Taxis, Uber and Lyft. But when you have 3 kids and at least two of them need car seats, you can’t just hop into the closest Uber.

This week Mears, the unofficial transportation king of Orlando, announced their Mears Connect bus service from Orlando Airport to the Disney Parks.
The Mears Connect will be waiting at the airport for you, same as Magical Express was. They plan to offer an arrival souvenir and promise limited wait times for boarding.

Their buses will make more stops at resorts, so you won’t have as direct a path to your resort as you did with the Express. They also plan to offer entertainment during your drive – much like Express did on the TV’s scattered throughout the bus.

They will be offering two tiers:

STANDARD which is a shared service bus with more stops and ‘monitored wait time’ – whatever that means.
AND
PREMIUM which is limited wait time and direct service to your resort.

Of course, there are prices for each.
DADventure Take-Away: This hurts… a lot!

For us, the adventure always began as we swiped our Magic Bands (Disney is also not sending those free anymore) and boarded the Magical Express at the airport.

Now, we have to get our luggage off the baggage claim belts, head over and wait in line.

The biggest hurt – we now have to PAY. For up to and over $200 to get my family of five to the parks is a big chunk of change. That is usually what we budget for in-park souvenirs. And no, Disney isn’t charging less for their resorts now that they’d don’t include the ride.

I worry about what “monitored wait time” means for standing around in the airport with tired and over-excited kids.

If you don’t have a lot of kids, or any that still need car seats for the 20-30 minute ride to the parks, Uber and Lyft will probably be the more affordable option for you. Either way, you now need to add a transportation line-item to your trip’s budget.

Thanks to reader, Rob K., for sending in this great shot from last week.

He was in the parks with his family and snapped this shot of the continuing construction of the Tron Coaster in the Magic Kingdom which looks like it will open sometime in 2022.

If you have a great photo of what’s going on in the Disney Parks that I could use in a future newsletter, let me know! Reply and send it along.
